Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga means an eight fold path philosophy to bring you closer to your true self (the atman).

The main focus of these classes will be asana (poses) and pranayama (breath control) but within these two stages of this eight gold path we will begin to experience on some level our true self.11705168_1619210818368234_5091698636655622107_n

Practicing this sequence, that consists of asanas and ujjayi pranayama allows the body to become strong & flexible and more able to stay steady, allowing less distraction through “disease” within the body.

This in turn leaves us more prepared for the meditation aspect of yoga, allowing us to become more relaxed and able to face our daily responsibilities in the modern day to day fast paced society.

Yoga allows us to face ourselves before we face the world.

“If we practice the science of yoga, which is useful to the entire human community and which yields happiness both here and hereafter – if we practice it without fail, we will then attain physical, mental and spiritual happiness, and our minds will flood towards the Self.” –
